You may see potassium hydroxide is an ingredient but it’s only in the process of making the soap. There is none in the product you buy. If you let wood ash sit in water you create the same thing.

It usually ends up being a personal preference depending on how dirty you’ve gotten. I prefer to use a small squirt in my hand when washing my hair and body.

If you would feel more comfortable following a protocol

Washing your body:

women in shower washing her natural hair with shampoo
  • 2-3 drops applied to wet face
  • 1 small splash on a washcloth for the body

Hair Washing

  • 1/2Tbsp. (or dilute 1/2Tbsp in 1/2 cup of water then apply)
  • scrub until bubbly
  • rinse when clean

Bathtub

  • Average bathtub size 2 Tbsp
  • NO bubbles but it will clean

Shaving:

  • 10 drops for face
  • 3 drops underarms
  • 1/2tsp. for legs (lather first)

Bonus TIP:

Clear your sinuses:

1 steamy hot bowl of water 1Tbsp (any castile soap works peppermint is better) make a mini sauna with a towel over head and breathe.

  1. Hiya Doc,
I’ve not heard of Dr. Bronners before but it sounds like a product I could get used to in a hurry. My hair, unfortunately, seems to be deserting me but I like the idea of having a total, natural body wash type shampoo. With it being a concentrate, some savings make this even more attractive along with being able to mix to the strength I prefer. Cool product and thanks for the information!

    1. Yeah, I love Dr. Bronner’s shampoo. Definitely give it a try to see if it’s for you. It does last a long while I’d say 6 months for a 32oz bottle.

  2. I think I have to try that shampoo. all these different oils used, sound very healthy.
I also appreciate that these products are environment-friendly and made from natural ingredients.
I don’t wash my hair with shampoo every time because it gets too dry, is this not happening with Dr. Bronner’s?

    1. Definitely not Dr. Bronners replaces the natural oils in your hair. You can use multiple times a day if you feel the need. I use Dr. Bronner’s myself and love what it does for my hair and body.

  3. Great review! I have used some of the Dr. Bronners products before. They are great.
    Thanks Doc!

    1. Yeah I’m a big fan myself they just leave me feeling clean and naturally refreshed. And I can use it as both shampoo and body wash.
