What’s the Best Food for Good Health

If you ask me hey Doc what’s the best food for good health? I will respond, those foods that are closest to natural as possible, grown in nutrient-rich soil:

  • Fruits
    three peaches
  • Vegetables
  • Seeds
  • Nuts
  • Grains
  • Legumes

Pluck a sun-ripened peach fresh from the tree and bite into it juice dripping down your arm and you have high-quality food to build your body.

Take that same peach and cut it, mash it, mix with butter, milk, sugar, flour, oil, and bake it…not so healthy anymore.

Legumes, grains, and some vegetables must be cooked to make them palatable. Still, cook them sparingly to maintain the highest nutritional value.

Eating animals that have eaten FVSNGL can provide nutrition valuable to the body. However, it is further removed from natural, therefore not as valuable as the natural form.

Here are some good examples of foods from each category. Food Categories

New Body Every Year?

The idea is to provide high-quality nutrients the body needs to create and maintain cell growth at optimum. For all intents and purposes, the majority of our bodies are new every year.

That’s right a new heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, muscles, etc. Think of it like this. If you go swimming in a river this week splash around and have lots of fun, and next week return to the same spot and jump in again, is it the same river?

The answer is no, it is a completely new river. So it is with your body, it is ever flowing with new life being generated moment by moment. It is continuously being built from what you choose to put in your mouth.

Make Good Choices

So, you choose. What are you going to chew, swallow and build your body with? For instance, lying on your kitchen counter is a store-bought, cellophane wrapped hunk of banana cake. Sitting next to it is a fresh, ripe banana. Which do you think will do your body good? Which will you choose? How often will you make the choices that will enhance the health of your body?

90 Nutrients

nutritional facts showing 90 nutrients your body needs for good health

Your body needs roughly 90 nutrients for good health. These nutrients are in the FVSNGL we eat, provided they are grown in nutrient-rich soil.

No single food has everything our bodies need. Therefore, a wide variety of foods must be consumed.

Each plant absorbs different nutrients from the soil. This is why their look, smell, and taste diverge. Consume a wide variety of foods and the better chance you will have to obtain all the nutrients your body needs for good health.

10,000 Taste Buds

Allowing our tongues to dictate the foods we eat is calamitous. We have upwards of 10,000 taste buds that send messages to the brain about what we are eating.

5 different messages are sent including Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, and Savory (Umami). It would seem the human brain prefers the stimulation of Sweet and Salt over the others. Which is why we as a species are overeating these flavors and becoming obese.

Obesity is a problem all over the world in nearly every culture. We are allowing our tongues to dictate our food consumption to the detriment of our health.

Buck the System

Family values, cultural norms, and societal expectations often dictate we consume less than optimal food choices. It is not easy to buck the system. So do the best you can to break the mold, and go your own way choosing FVSNGL in their most natural form as often as you can. Your body will love you for it.

Take control of what you ingest. Use the power of mind and intelligence to create the body you desire. If you want health, you can have it. If you don’t, you won’t.

Typical Day of Healthy Eating

Let’s explore what an average day of healthy food choices might be. Again, there are endless possibilities of food combinations. If you happen to have a particular malady that requires more limited choices, please take that into account.

Food preparation must be taken into consideration. The most used products in your kitchen will be the cutting board and the chef knife.

So get a high-quality knife, and knife sharpener. Choose raw over cooked food as often as possible. When cooking use steam over boiling, grill, and baking over frying, Virgin olive or coconut oil over any other. Use as many fresh herbs as you can find or grow.

Be as simple or complex in your food preparation as your personality and time permit. Keeping in mind choosing and consuming Fruits – Vegetables – Seeds – Nuts – Grains – Legumes closest to their natural state as possible, grown in nutrient-rich soil are the Best Foods for Good Health.

  1. Excellent layout of a meal plan. Mine’s very identical in that I’ll eat my largest meal for lunch and opt for a mid-sized breakfast rich in fruit, nuts, and grains before opting for something similar for dinner. I do want to get back into eating chopped salads, which I admit I’ve neglected for quite some time. Thanks for the overall article, outstanding content and I like that acronym.

    1. Thanks Todd I’ve been at this a long time and it’s all pretty simple from what I’ve gathered but with all the other options that are much more easily available I understand that there are many who don’t know the way to excellent health.

I’ve found the smaller the pieces you chop into your salad the tastier and easier it is to eat

  2. Im a bit picky in terms of foodstuff i am vegetarian and sometimes i hate fruits.?Maybe no appetite for this foods.

    1. Well, it’s all about how natural you keep the foods you do like. Straight from the ground or off the tree is the best for good health.

  3. I like the fact that your foods are natural. Natural food instead of processed food, has improved the quality of my health. Your example menu is very helpful. Plus you suggest Virgin olive oil and coconut oil – Yum

    1. I don’t use anything other than virgin olive or coconut oil. It’s miles better for you and there’s no difference in cooking or taste …maybe slightly with the coconut but it’s all good tastes.

Yes, I believe I will be adding some more meal choices to this menu as well It’s been requested by another reader. Hope you enjoyed and thank you for your interest

      All the best!

  4. Hey Doc

Since I am vegan I can thoroughly relate with the foods you mentioned in this article.

Focusing on high fiber fruits and high protein foods can be a game-changer for health improvements.
Thank you for a great article

    1. Yes, it’s very smart to get a wide variety of fruits and veggies. Each one has different vitamins and minerals boost health to other levels. Your body will be thanking you for it in the long run that’s for sure. Glad you enjoyed my article!

  5. Hi Milligan,

it would be great if you could provide a wider list of food to be consumed in the morning, at lunch and at dinner time. I really liked your post, but it is a shame there are only a few food examples for each eating time of the day.

Looking forward seeing a more complete list of food 🙂

    1. Well, my point is to eat the foods that are live and fresh not dead and old. Now, of course, I don’t mean take a bite out of a flopping fish. But the longer you wait to the fewer nutrients will be available.

But you’ve inspired me to create a post listing the meals I enjoy and are very healthy.
